Vehicle tax token and fitness
A tax token is proof that the applicable motor-vehicle tax was paid. A fitness certificate is a separate document about the vehicle’s fitness. Registration records the vehicle; a driving licence authorises the driver. The papers and steps depend on the vehicle and the service. getBangla is an independent guide — not the BRTA Service Portal, and not a place to apply or pay.

A usual owner path
- Collect the papers for this vehicle and this service — The list is not the same for every owner. BSP says the first tax token is issued by BRTA when the vehicle is registered, and a later renewal is done at a designated bank after the prescribed fee is paid, with the previous original tax token. Fitness renewal is a different list: a signed application on the prescribed form, the fee receipt, the original fitness certificate, an attested copy of the current tax token, and — where they apply — attested TIN papers and proof of advance income tax. A learner licence is not a tax token. Driver documents: driving licence.
- BRTA Service Portal (BSP) — The official online address is bsp.brta.gov.bd. The portal lists a fee calculator, payment verification and a bank list. BRTA describes BSP as the place for online application and fees for services such as a learner licence, smart-card licence, licence renewal and a duplicate licence. Fitness renewal still needs the vehicle presented for inspection at the circle office where it was last registered or last renewed; for circles in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, BRTA says to take an online appointment and attend at that time. A later tax-token renewal is from a designated bank. Do not assume every step finishes online. BRTA’s own notice says BSP is open from 8:00am to 10:00pm Bangladesh time.
- Pay only through the official channel — Before login or payment, confirm the site is bsp.brta.gov.bd. Follow the official payment instruction or the designated bank, and check the recipient. Do not send money to a personal account only because someone says they represent BRTA. Never share an OTP, password or PIN. Keep the receipt and the transaction reference.
- Keep the papers the law requires current — Under the Road Transport Act, 2018, a motor vehicle that is not exempt may not be driven without a tax token or with an expired one, and a motor vehicle may not be driven without a fitness certificate or with an expired one. Which papers you must carry depends on the vehicle class and the current BRTA procedure. This page does not say the token must be kept or displayed in one particular place.
A tax token is not a fitness certificate
| Topic | Tax token | Fitness |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Proof related to payment of the applicable motor-vehicle tax | The fitness certificate for a vehicle to which it applies |
| Purpose | Proof that the applicable motor-vehicle tax was paid | To confirm the vehicle’s fitness through the prescribed test or process |

| Important | Paying the tax does not by itself complete fitness | Whether fitness is required, and for how long, depends on the vehicle class and the rules |
- The petrol or diesel price is not motor-vehicle tax and it is not a tax token. Fuel price and vehicle tax are different things.

FAQ
Is a tax token the same as fitness?
No. They are different BRTA-related documents and processes. A tax token relates to the applicable vehicle tax. Fitness is the fitness certificate, where that certificate applies to the vehicle.
Can I renew it on getBangla?
No. getBangla does not process BRTA renewal and does not take payment. Use the official BRTA or BSP service where that service is offered. Some steps, including a fitness inspection, need the vehicle at a BRTA office. Not every renewal is completed entirely online.
Does a private car need fitness?
Section 25 of the Road Transport Act, 2018 says a motor vehicle may not be driven without a fitness certificate or with an expired one. The section does not give a separate exemption for a private passenger car. How often a class must be inspected or renewed can differ, and this page does not state an interval. A commercial or public-service vehicle can also have separate conditions, such as a route permit. Check the current BRTA or BSP instruction for your vehicle class.
Is this the same as renewing a driving licence?
No. Vehicle tax, the tax token and vehicle fitness concern the vehicle. A driving licence concerns the driver. They are separate BRTA services and documents. See driving licence for the driver path.
Where can a tax token be renewed or paid?
BSP says BRTA issues the first tax token when the vehicle is registered. A later renewal can be done at a designated bank after the prescribed fee is paid. Use the bank list or payment path shown on the official portal. getBangla does not collect the fee.
Do I have to take the vehicle for fitness?
Yes for fitness renewal. BSP says you apply at the circle office where the vehicle was last registered or last had fitness renewed, and you present the vehicle there for inspection. For circles under the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, BRTA says to book an online appointment and attend at the scheduled time.
Does paying the tax token also complete fitness?
No. Paying the applicable tax and holding a tax token does not by itself complete the fitness inspection or issue a fitness certificate.
What if the vehicle has no fitness certificate?
Section 25 of the Road Transport Act, 2018 prohibits driving a motor vehicle without a fitness certificate or with an expired one. Section 75 makes that violation an offence, with a maximum of six months’ imprisonment, or a fine of up to 25,000 taka, or both. What happens in a particular case depends on the enforcing authority and the vehicle. This page is not a fine chart.
Where do I see the tax-token fee?
On BRTA’s fee calculator for a registered vehicle, on bsp.brta.gov.bd. The amount depends on the vehicle and can change. This page does not publish a fixed fee.
What care should I take when paying on BSP?
Confirm the domain is bsp.brta.gov.bd before you log in or pay. Do not share an OTP, password, PIN or other secret. Do not pay a personal account merely because the person claims to be a BRTA agent. Keep the receipt and the transaction reference.
