Age calculator
Find completed age in years, months and days from a date of birth to today or to any cutoff date. The page also explains upcoming birthdays and leap-year handling. It does not decide government-job eligibility.

What this calculator does
Completed age is how old you are on a chosen date: full years, then leftover months, then leftover days. It is not the same as “age in days only” or “age next birthday”.
NID, passport, school and job forms all care about the date printed on a certificate. Use that date, not a remembered date.
The path
- Date of birth
- Current or cutoff date
- Completed age
Inputs and how the maths works
- Date of birth
- The calendar date on the birth certificate or NID. Enter year-month-day carefully; swapping day and month is a common error.
- Current / cutoff date
- Defaults to today. For a form that says “age as on 1 January”, change this date. The tool does not know any circular’s official cutoff.
Completed age
years, then months, then days, borrowing a month or year when the day or month has not been reached yet
- If today is 12 September and the birthday is 20 September, the last full year ended on the previous 20 September.
- February 29 birthdays in a non-leap year are handled as a calendar date. Confirm the rule your office uses if the form is strict.
How to use it
- Enter date of birth — Copy it from the document you will submit, not from memory.
- Set the as-of date — Leave today, or type the cutoff printed on the form.
- Read years, months and days — That trio is completed age. Total days and next birthday are extra context.
- Treat 30/32 as a ruler only — The dark box only compares completed age with 30 and 32 years. It is not a BCS or ministry decision.
Worked example
Birthday not yet reached this year
Date of birth 15 May 1998. As-of date 12 September 2026.
- Years: 2026 − 1998 = 28, and 12 September is after 15 May, so 28 completed years.
- Months: May to September is 4 months.
- Days: 12 − 15 needs a day-borrow from the previous month, leaving 28 years, 3 months and a remainder of days.
Completed age is 28 years, 3 months and 28 days on 12 September 2026.
A different age-counting habit you may see
Completed age vs a family-counted age
| Completed age (this calculator) | Traditional counting some families use |
|---|---|
| Starts at 0 at birth | Sometimes starts at 1 at birth |
| Turns over only on the exact birth date | Sometimes treated as increasing for everyone at New Year |
| Matches NID, passport and school records | Used in everyday conversation, not on any official document |
Age limits and jobs
- Read the circular’s “age as on” line before you compare.
- Keep birth date consistent across NID, e-passport and birth registration.
- If two documents disagree, fix the document first; the calculator cannot resolve that.
FAQ
What is completed age?
The full years, months and days that have already passed from the date of birth to the as-of date.
Does a leap year change the result?
It can change the day count if 29 February sits between the two dates. Year-month-day age still follows the calendar.
Can this say I am eligible for a government job?
No. It can only show your age on a date you type. Eligibility is in the current circular.
