British Pound rate in Bangladesh
The card above shows today’s 1 British pound (GBP) in taka as a market mid-rate. People use it to check a UK salary transfer, a student-fee invoice paid from Dhaka, or a travel-card load. Sterling floats against the dollar, so the taka result can move even when USD/BDT is quiet.

Two moving legs: GBP/USD and USD/BDT
Unlike the riyal, sterling is not pegged to the dollar. On the same day GBP/USD can rise while USD/BDT falls — or the two can move together. The taka you get from £1 is the product of both legs, which is why a UK salary credit and a Dhaka tuition payment can feel unpredictable even if “the dollar did not move.”
If a university invoice is in pounds, paying in pounds once is usually cheaper than converting to dollars and then to pounds. A euro invoice belongs on the euro page instead.
- Mid-market is a midpoint, not the rate a booth will sell you pound notes.
- A 1–2% gap versus this reference is common on licensed transfers. A much larger gap is a reason to ask for a second quote.
- For sending money, lock and read the receive amount in the app. This card is for sense-checking.

FAQ
Is this Bangladesh Bank’s GBP rate?
No. It is a market mid-rate. For paperwork, use Bangladesh Bank or your bank’s published pound board.
Why did the pound-taka rate move when the dollar looked still?
Sterling floats against the dollar. GBP/USD can change even if USD/BDT does not, and that still moves GBP/BDT.
Should I convert student fees twice (pound → dollar → pound)?
If the university asks for GBP, pay in GBP through the method they name. Converting twice usually costs extra spread.
