Bangladesh government pay scale explained: grades 1–20, house rent and any new scale
A job circular just says “grade 9”. This post explains what that means in taka, how house rent is added, and where to find reliable news about any new scale.
1. Grades and starting basic
The National Pay Scale 2015 splits government posts into grades 1 to 20. Grade 1 is the top and grade 20 the bottom. The table below shows the starting basic of each grade and a Dhaka-band gross estimate with house rent and a flat ৳1,500 medical allowance.

2. House rent and medical
House rent is added on top of basic. This model uses 50% in Dhaka, 45% in other city corporations and 40% elsewhere. Medical allowance is a flat amount.
Take-home pay is lower because GPF, tax and welfare fund are deducted. Festival bonus is separate. To run your own grade and city, use the government pay-scale calculator.
3. What to remember about a new scale
Talk or proposals about a new national pay scale are not the legal scale until the Finance Division issues a gazette. Do not calculate from rumours, Facebook tables or “probable pay” charts.
We update the figures on this page once an official gazette is in hand. Until then the 2015 scale is what the tables use.
