Smart NID Card Online Correction Guide Bangladesh: Fees, Documents & Status Check
A wrong name or date of birth on your NID can stall a bank account, passport or other government work. Here is how to apply on the Election Commission site, what papers you need, and what the fee usually is.
1. NID Correction Application Categories
The Election Commission’s NID Wing splits corrections into four groups — A, B, C and D. That split decides whether the upazila, the district or the centre handles it:
- Category A (simple): Small spelling mistakes, blood group, adding or removing a spouse’s name. The upazila election officer decides.
- Category B (medium): Part of your name, education details. The district election officer approves.
- Category C (hard): A parent’s name, or moving the date of birth by 5 years or more. A regional election officer (RSO) reviews it.
- Category D (very hard): A full name change or a large mismatch in the year of birth. The director general or a central committee has to approve.
2. Official Fee Chart & bKash/Nagad Payment
Pay the fee (including 15% VAT) on mobile banking before you submit. The usual list looks like this:
| Service Type | Govt Fee | 15% VAT | Total Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal Info (1st Time) | BDT 200 | BDT 30 | BDT 230 |
| Personal Info (2nd Time) | BDT 300 | BDT 45 | BDT 345 |
| Other Info (Address) | BDT 100 | BDT 15 | BDT 115 |
| Lost Reissue (Regular) | BDT 200 | BDT 30 | BDT 230 |
| Lost Reissue (Urgent) | BDT 300 | BDT 45 | BDT 345 |
3. Mandatory Supporting Documents
Blurry or mismatched papers get sent back. Keep clear scans or photos — usually under 2MB each:
- Your name and date of birth: SSC or equivalent (this one matters), the 17-digit online birth record, and a passport copy if you have one.
- A parent’s name: parents’ NIDs, siblings’ NIDs, a succession certificate or a death certificate — whichever applies.
- A name change after marriage or divorce: the registered kabinnama and the spouse’s NID.
4. Step-by-Step Submission on NID Portal
On services.nidw.gov.bd the application usually goes like this:
- Step 1: Open services.nidw.gov.bd and log in. New users register with the face-verification app.
- Step 2: Tap Edit on the profile. Change only the fields that are wrong.
- Step 3: The mobile-banking fee should show as a balance in the portal.
- Step 4: Upload each supporting paper in the matching slot.
- Step 5: Check once more and submit. Download a print of the form.
5. Application Tracking & PDF Download
After you submit, an SMS usually arrives on the registered mobile. Log in to see whether the file is pending, approved or sent back.
Once approved, you can download a colour watermarked PDF from the profile. That online copy works for many official jobs; a new physical smart card may be issued separately.
