HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) guide
HSC uses the same 5.00 board GPA idea as SSC, with group subjects and a 4th/optional paper. This page covers grading, result checking, re-scrutiny and admission links — not guessed exam calendars.

Overview
HSC is the higher-secondary board exam (Alim is the madrasa equivalent). Science, humanities and business studies share the same grade table; subject lists differ. Practical papers are folded into the subject grade by the board before you see a letter.
Result and what comes next
- Check on getBangla or the board site — The HSC result form sends the lookup when you submit. It does not store the record. The official channel is still educationboardresults.gov.bd.
- Use educationboardresults.gov.bd — Exam = HSC/Alim, then year, board, roll and registration. Confirm the URL on that year’s notice.
- Download or keep the marksheet — Admission forms ask for GPA with and sometimes without the 4th subject. Read that year’s form.
- Re-scrutiny if you need it — Only inside the window the board announces. There is no standing “always 7 days” rule on this page.
- Plan admission with both GPAs — See university admission and, for NU colleges, National University.
HSC result-day checklist
| Do | Do not |
|---|---|
| Use the board notice URL and SMS code for this year | Reuse last year’s SMS short code |
| Save a screenshot and later collect the paper marksheet | Rely only on a coaching-centre Facebook page |
| Open the GPA calculator if you have letter grades | Invent a combined GPA for a university form that asks “without 4th subject” |
- Failing to pass theory and practical separately when the board requires both.
- Using SSC 4th-subject rules on a university form that says “without 4th subject”.
- Missing the re-scrutiny window because of waiting to “see if it matters” for admission first.
HSC GPA vs university CGPA — do not confuse them
| HSC (board) | University (typical) |
|---|---|
| 5.00 scale GPA | Often 4.00 scale CGPA |
| 4th-subject bonus above 2.00 | No equivalent bonus; every credit course counts |
| One result per exam cycle | CGPA accumulates across semesters/years |

FAQ
What is the pass mark in HSC practical subjects?
Boards have long required a pass in both theory and practical where a subject has both. Confirm on that year’s board regulation if you are close to the line.
Will my HSC GPA change once I am at university?
No — the HSC certificate GPA is fixed after any re-scrutiny window closes. University CGPA is a separate, new calculation that starts from zero.
