DPS and FDR calculator
Estimate a bank monthly deposit (DPS) maturity or a fixed deposit (FDR) payout from the rate and tenure on your quotation. This is a compounding model, not a Bangladesh Bank gazette and not a government savings certificate (সঞ্চয়পত্র) table. The branch contract still wins.

DPS versus FDR versus Sanchayapatra
| Instrument | What you put in | What this page models |
|---|---|---|
| DPS (monthly deposit) | A fixed amount every month for a stated term | Future value of those instalments at a rate you type |
| FDR (fixed deposit) | One lump sum, locked for months | Simple or compound growth on that lump sum |
| Sanchayapatra / savings certificate | A gazette-notified government paper | Not modelled here — rates change by circular |
A bank DPS is closer to a recurring deposit: you pay a monthly instalment, but you are saving, not borrowing. An FDR is one amount left untouched. Government savings certificates are a third product with their own notified rates — do not paste those rates here and assume the bank formula still applies.
Formulas used
DPS — future value of a monthly annuity
FV = PMT × ((1 + i)^n − 1) / i with i = annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100, n = years × 12
- End-of-month (ordinary annuity) is the default and the more conservative picture.
- Start-of-month multiplies that FV by (1 + i), because each deposit earns one extra month.
- If the rate is 0, maturity is simply PMT × n.
FDR — compound or simple
Compound: A = P × (1 + r/m)^(m × t) Simple: A = P × (1 + r × t / 100)
- t is tenure in years (months ÷ 12). m is 12, 4 or 1 for monthly, quarterly or yearly compounding.
- Quarterly is a common FDR quote in Bangladesh. Your advice letter may still say daily or “on maturity”.
- Monthly deposit / principal
- The taka you actually send, after any opening fee the bank already deducted.
- Rate
- The annual percentage on the quotation. Do not convert it to monthly yourself.
- Tenure
- DPS in years, FDR in months — matching how the product is sold.
- TDS %
- Optional. Applied only to estimated profit/interest, not to the principal. Leave 0 if you have not checked the current withholding rule.
Worked examples
DPS: ৳5,000 a month for 5 years at 9%
End-of-month deposits, no TDS.
- Monthly rate i = 9 ÷ 12 ÷ 100 = 0.0075. n = 60.
- Total deposited = 5,000 × 60 = ৳3,00,000.
- Estimated maturity ≈ ৳3,77,121; estimated profit ≈ ৳77,121.
The year table should show the same ৳3,00,000 deposited at year 5. A bank booklet can still print a different maturity if it compounds differently or adds a loyalty bonus.
FDR: ৳2,00,000 for 12 months at 10% quarterly
One deposit, quarterly compounding, no TDS.
- A = 2,00,000 × (1 + 0.10/4)^4 = 2,00,000 × 1.025^4.
- Estimated maturity ≈ ৳2,20,763; interest ≈ ৳20,763.
- Simple interest at the same 10% for one year would be only ৳20,000 — compounding is why the figures differ.
If the advice letter says “simple, paid on maturity”, switch the compounding box to simple interest.
How to use it
- Copy the rate from the quotation, not from memory — Promo posters go stale. Use the advice letter or the app screen for that scheme.
- Match DPS or FDR to the product you were sold — A monthly standing instruction is DPS. A single cheque locked for 6 or 12 months is FDR.
- Set compounding the way the letter describes — If it is silent, quarterly is a common FDR default on this page — still confirm.
- Read profit as an estimate — Then write the maturity in words on a receipt with the taka in words tool if you need a paper trail.
- Treating this as a loan EMI in reverse. Saving and borrowing use related algebra, but bank fees and penalties differ.
- Pasting a Sanchayapatra gazette rate into the DPS box. That paper is not a bank recurring deposit.
- Ignoring premature-encashment penalties. Breaking an FDR early often pays a lower rate on the whole term.
- Assuming the optional TDS box is the current NBR rate. Withholding changes; type only a percentage you have checked.
FAQ
Is this the official Bangladesh Bank rate?
No. You type the rate your bank quoted. Bangladesh Bank publishes policy and often a published FDR/DPS range for scheduled banks, but each scheme still has its own advice letter.
Does this calculate Sanchayapatra (savings certificates)?
No. Government savings certificates use gazette-notified rates and their own profit-payment calendars. This page is for bank DPS and FDR quotations.
Why is my bank’s maturity a few taka different?
Rounding, daily versus monthly compounding, deposit timing, a bonus tranche, or a fee taken at opening. Treat the gap as a reason to read the contract, not as a site error by default.
Should I enter TDS?
Only if you already know the withholding percentage that applies to that account. The box is optional and is applied to estimated profit, not to principal.
Can I use this for a loan?
Use the EMI calculator for borrowing. This page is for deposits.
