Fuel prices in Bangladesh

BPC retail prices for petrol, octane, diesel and kerosene are loaded from the official local-selling-price table, plus a litre-cost estimator. Administered prices change by gazette — if this table and the pump disagree, pay the pump.

How to use the table

What people mix up at the pump

ProductTypical use
PetrolMany older petrol engines
Octane (motor spirit, higher octane)Cars that specify it; usually priced above petrol
DieselBuses, trucks, many SUVs and generators
KeroseneHousehold and some farm use; often tracks diesel on the BPC board

Why the pump price does not move every day

BPC sets one administered price for the whole country by gazette, instead of letting pumps price freely. That rate is built from the international cost of crude and refined fuel plus the taka–dollar rate on the import bill, then a government call on how much of that swing to pass on to the pump.

That is why a weaker taka or a jump in the global oil price does not always show up at the pump the same week. The gazette date on the BPC board is the number that counts — not a WhatsApp forward.

Fill-cost estimate

What you will pay

Taka ≈ litres × Tk per litre on the card (or on the pump)

  • CNG, LPG autogas and electric charging are different markets — not this table.
  • A household bill that is not fuel belongs on electricity or piped gas.

20 litres: octane vs diesel

Same 20 litres, two different fuels, at the BPC rates on this page.

  1. Octane: 20 × the octane rate above.
  2. Diesel: 20 × the diesel rate above — usually the cheaper fuel per litre.
  3. The gap between the two totals is what switching fuel (where the engine allows it) actually saves on one fill.

The estimator above multiplies live; use it with your own litre count and today’s card.

FAQ

Is octane the same as petrol?

No. Octane is a higher-octane motor spirit and is usually priced above petrol on the BPC board. Use the grade your engine manual names.

Why is the number on Facebook different?

Old screenshots travel. Gazette dates matter. Check bpc.gov.bd or the metal board at the pump.

Do you scrape live pump prices?

We load BPC’s published retail table automatically when you open the page. Individual pumps should still match that gazette; if a board disagrees, pay the pump and check bpc.gov.bd.

Is this the dollar rate in disguise?

Fuel is administered in taka. Import costs move with FX over months, but today’s pump is not the dollar card.

Does kerosene always match diesel?

BPC has often kept kerosene close to diesel, but they are listed separately on this page because the gazette can set them apart. Check both rows before you assume.
